Made for Rosales' exhibition for The Getty, “Creation” reconstructs the seven days of creation, drawing from the ancient concepts and cosmological traditions of Yoruba thought. It invites viewers to see creation not as a chronological series of events, but as a continuous cycle – an ouroboros of life, death, and renewal. The piece reflects the merging of three essential elements of creation: Orun (the sun), and the male and female energies of Olodumare and Odua in the formation of Earth and life. This work embraces fluidity and interconnectedness. Water, plants, and all living beings are bound together, each supporting and nurturing the other – a reminder to care for the earth, our shared home.
