A consequence of overprotection is that the children will be unable to form their own independence. Without knowing hurt or pain, future generations will face difficulties in finding their own destinies. Motherly love, as the painting forewarns, can also cross over into control and manipulation of one’s Garden of Eve, interpreted by the artist as one’s mind. In this ideal garden, everything must be in balance in order to achieve one’s potential and destiny. The painting’s explosion of petals, however, destabilizes the garden, an indication of manipulation. And when manipulation creeps in and takes hold, we can become distracted and easily led away from our true identities.
