Summer

Oil on Belgian Linen with 24k Gold, 24" x 24"

Within a framework of an allegory of the seasons, the four paintings Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter represent the cycle of life, and the Lucumí belief of learning about oneself and the world before transcending.

Part of Rosales’s allegory of the seasons series, Summer represents the time when one is awakened to different parts of life, its challenges and rewards, tensions and anxieties, as detected in the figure’s expression. In this period, one gains knowledge about the world. The symbolic snake of knowledge hugs Summer, guiding her through the trials of life.
